The Mormon Times recently released an article titled: Creating a Family Proclamation Scrapbook. It features how it started with the genius idea of my friend, Ann Kerr. It explains how Ann and her daughter created a digital scrapbook of the Proclamation. They also mention the templates I created to help anyone make their own Family Proclamation book – available right here on this site! Teacher Gift – less than $2

The end of the year came out of nowhere for me! This upcoming week is the last week of school for my kids. We usually do a little appreciation gift for each of their teachers. This year they wanted to give something to ALL their teachers, not just their homeroom teacher. And my daughter Sydney is now in middle school with 7 teachers. That’s 15 teacher gifts! I saw this idea of putting a personal message inside a soap bottle at my mother-in-law’s house and decided to see if it would work, I’m not sure where the original idea came from. Teachers do lots of hand washing in their classrooms, so at least it’s useful. I bought the soap at Target… on sale for $1 per bottle. We had to remove the labels with “Goo Gone”. I created the new label template using my kids’ personal silhouettes, but you could also have each child draw a little picture with pencil in that space and trace it with black marker. Take your print to a copy shop and have them print it on transparency. Mine was $1 per sheet that included 8 labels. I cut out the squares, opened the soap and slightly rolled it and put it in. Use the tube of the spout to guide it into place. Screw the top back on and it’s done. I’m including my template for free – click on the link below. Just add the name and a simple illustration. Custom silhouettes can be created for a small design fee… you’ll find lot’s of uses for them.

LDS Gift Idea

If you’re LDS, you might have seen the temple prints at Deseret Book with kind of an antiqued look, mostly by Robert Boyd. I think they’re very beautiful and such a great gift idea. But I like to personalize it even more by adding wedding/sealing date and/or names, so here’s MY version. I started with a photo I took when I was in Salt Lake last month – there were SO many beautiful spring flowers. I added some decorative elements and then personalized it for my brother-in-law and his wife as a gift. I’m going to have it printed on 11×14 fine art paper (for about $20) and frame it. I found a great frame at Kohls for $19 on sale. I also could have easily printed it at any photo processing center, like Cost-co for less than $3, but I’m in love with rich texture of the art paper. If you have Photoshop/PSE, I added this photo as a template in my Photoshop Template shop for $1.99, all of the decorative elements are separate layers, so you can move them or delete them. You can personalize it with text or not. Heritage Makers’ users: email me and I can send you the template of your choice. What do you think? Should I do more of these types of templates? Which temples? I can for sure do a Sacramento Temple and an Oakland right now, but I’d love an excuse to visit somewhere else too.

Holiday Cards

I know it’s May! But I am starting to create my 2010 holiday cards already. Is there anything you are looking for? I did get requests for more religious-themed cards. That’s a challenge for me… making a religious theme look classy, contemporary and fit my style. Here’s one of my first attempts… still tweaking it. Like it, hate it? Let me know if you have any great ideas or special requests!

Graduation Cards

Here’s a couple of the custom cards I’ve done lately for graduation. One for a high school graduate, and I have to say it turned out SOOO much better than the generic school ones that are offered (and way less expensive too). The second one was an graduation party invitation that I did for my little cousin. He has autism and over the last 3 years has made tremendous progress and is “graduating” from his therapy. They are having a celebration and inviting all the therapists and those that have helped him… isn’t that the coolest idea EVER!? Not only are they celebrating Owen’s accomplishments, but those that have worked to help him along the way, probably without much recognition for their efforts and some of them haven’t seen him since he was very young – they will be blown away. Owen’s mom is one of the most amazing women I know!
